Yes! I would be thrilled to see Evolution and gnome-do plugins for Hiveminder. (Not that that should surprise you).

I am also thinking about learning Python, although ultimately probably for different reasons — or, at least, with web applications in mind, as opposed to the desktop space. I live inside my browser, so consequently that is the paradigm within which I tend to think, as well.
